happy things: the quokka

Sure, it's Monday and you have to go to work but first, look at this face? Isn't life wonderful? More pictures, please?! Sure. Click here

I'm looking at this picture and clearly will be getting no work done this morning. I'm enjoying the sheer pleasure of looking at this happy, furry face. You know if he could talk he would say "Yes, you there with that camera, come into my burrow for a little nosh. What was that? Something on my nose?! Well, I like it there! It makes me unique!" I think he'd talk like Winnie the Pooh.

Before you call your partner to tell him that you've found your next pet, you should know that this little member of the macropod family (kangaroo, wallaby and other marsupials) lives on smaller islands off the coast of Australia. The Quokka is an herbivore that weighs between 5.5 and 11 pounds, similar to a cat, but due to its content demeanor he probably wouldn't toss your things off the counter like your cat would.  Wikipedia refers to it looking "rather like a very small, dumpy kangaroo" which makes me love this little one all the more. Unfortunately, the Quokka is listed as "vulnerable" due to predators, logging and development. I would plan a trip to Rottnest Island just to see him in his natural habitat.

I love that we live in a world where happy little animals like these exist.
