You never really do need an excuse for a picnic but on a lovely June day, it seems idyllic. Especially today being International Picnic Day. The only issue is that putting together a picnic basket can seem like a task. However, you don't need a basket or even utensils. Really.
Yesterday I stopped at Trader Joe's and picked up everything we need to enjoy lunch al fresco today--a baguette, some ripe, gorgeous strawberries, small triangles of good Spanish cheese and some sparkling wine. (I love Sofia Coppola Blanc de Blancs. The pink cans come with their own bendy straws. It's like a juice box for grown-ups.) Throw in a blanket and a couple napkins and that's it. For less than $20 you have a simple, perfect picnic.
Whether you're sitting on the front steps of your apartment or digging your toes into the sand, today sit outside, soak in the sun and think about this--summer is just starting. How lucky are we?!
